Shifting

Select the vehicle's gear using a simple button interface. Apply the brake pedal and select a gear.

Park (P): Press to put the vehicle in Park. A red indicator appears.

Reverse (R): Pull back to put the vehicle in Reverse. A green indicator appears.

Neutral (N): Press to put the vehicle in Neutral. A red indicator appears.

Drive (D): Press to put the vehicle in Drive. A green indicator appears. Release the electric parking brake to begin driving (see "Braking").

You may occasionally find that it takes longer than usual for the vehicle to start moving when you select Reverse (R). Release and/or depress the brake pedal. This may occur when the High Voltage battery level is extremely low and does not indicate a vehicle malfunction. Always apply the brake pedal before shifting into Park (P) and confirm that the Park (P) is shown on the gear position indicator before releasing the brake.

Note:

The gear position automatically changes to Park (P), if you open the driver's door under the following conditions:

Car wash mode

If you are driving through a conveyor-style car wash where you or the attendant do not remain in the vehicle, follow these steps while the power system is on:

  1. Press and hold the brake pedal. Make sure the READY indicator is on.
  2. Press Neutral (N). Within 6 seconds, press and hold Neutral (N) again for two seconds.

The transmission remains in Neutral (N) for 15 minutes with the power mode in ACCESSORY. After 15 minutes, the gear position changes to Park and the power system turns off.

The transmission may not stay in Neutral (N) position while the following indicators are on:

WARNING

The vehicle can roll away if left unattended without confirming that Park (P) is engaged. Always keep your foot on the brake pedal until you have confirmed that P is shown on the gear position indicator.

NOTICE

When you change from D to R and vice versa or want to change to Park (P), come to a complete stop and keep the brake pedal applied. Operating the gear buttons before the vehicle has come to a complete standstill can damage the transmission.
