  1. Q. I purchased HDS software through Helm. I have a Pass-Though Pro and I’m getting a PCM Code. What does this mean?
    A. The HDS software does not support this J2534 device.


  2. Q. Is the MVCI compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10?

  3. Q. I currently have an iFlash J2534 (Blue Streak Electronics). Is this compatible for receiving key and code information?
    A. No, the iFlash is used for re-programming only and requires the J2534 software. For further information, refer to the Blue Streak website.

  4. Q. How do I order diagnostic tools?
    A. Click on the "Tools Info" tab at the top of the SIS webpage for pricing and other tool related information.

  1. Q. I’m experiencing problems opening content on SIS - all I’m getting is a blank screen.
    A. You must meet our system requirements to view our content. Click here to review system requirements.
    NOTE: Users who are running Microsoft SQL server on their PC must remove SQL server in order to view our content.

  2. Q. I just logged on to the SIS website and I can no longer view the graphics. What happened? I never had this problem before.
    A. Please check the ‘System Requirements’ on our website. Currently, SIS supports 32bit IE browsers only, not 64bit IE browsers.

  1. Q. What is the cost of the various diagnostic software subscription?
    A. Click on the "Tools Info" tab at the top of the SIS webpage for pricing and other tool related information.

  2. Q. How do I install HDS software and what are the requirements?
    A. For HDS software requirements and installation, click here.

  3. Q. Do you offer any discounts on software subscriptions?
    A. Not at this time.

  4. Q. Can I install both Ford IDS and Honda HDS on the same PC?
    A. No. The two diagnostic systems are not designed to coexist on the same PC and will not function correctly if both are installed.

  5. Q. How do I reprogram the ECU?
    A. Select the model/year, then enter the keywords 'updating control units' to obtain reprogramming ECU information.

  6. Q. Is there an easy way to find out if there is updated programming for an ECM of a specific make or model?
    A. Yes, click here and enter current program ID number in the space provided.

  7. Q. Are all vehicle ECM's, PCM's, and ECU's reprogrammable?
    A. No, please refer to the vehicle programming matrix on the tools info page. (Click here)

  8. Q. I have a J2534 interface device. How do I purchase software?
    A. Click on the "Tools Info" tab at the top of the SIS webpage, then click on "Control Module Update".

  9. Q. Are 'Daily programming codes' available on SIS?
    A. No, codes are released per vehicle as needed.

  10. Q. Does the HDS software package retrieve codes for ABS, AIRBAG, and CHECK ENGINE?
    A. It depends on the year of the vehicle. Some older vehicles may not have the capability. Consult the Service Manual for specific model and year.

  11. Q. Can a PCM be reprogrammed with a J2534 pass thru device if the ignition lock cylinder was replaced (anti-theft or immobilizer system)?
    A. No, click here for required tools and software.

  12. Q. I have Ford IDS and Honda HDS software. Can I use the VCM with both diagnostic systems?
    A. No. The Ford VCM does not have all the required hardware to communicate with Honda vehicles.

  13. Q. I have Ford IDS and Honda HDS software. Can I use the MVCI with both diagnostic systems?
    A. No. The Honda MVCI does not have all the required hardware to communicate with Ford vehicles.

  14. Q. When I enroll in the HDS software program, how do I get the software and the updates?
    A. The initial software is delivered on a CD, along with printed instructions on how to install the software. When software updates are released, you’ll receive an email with a link to download the updates to your PC.  If you prefer to receive software updates on a CD, call Helm at (949) 330-7152 to request the CD delivery option.

  15. Q. I currently have a J2534, MVCI, and HDS software. How do I get the ECU update for a 2004 Acura RSX?
    A. You must have the latest HDS software. If an update is available, the software will recognize this and prompt you to install it. Or, if you know the program ID, confirm the vehicle's latest ECU program software by entering the current program ID on the SIS ‘Tools Info’ page.

  16. Q. Does the HDS diagnostic software work with J2534 devices?
    A. Yes, as long as the interface is J2534 compliant.

  17. Q. Can I use my J2534 software to program keys?
    A. No.

  18. Q. I currently use the Toyota software on a Panasonic Toughbook that has either XP or Vista. Can I run the HDS software on my Panasonic Toughbook?
    A. If the Panasonic Toughbook is part of the Toyota tool package and integrated together with a "cradle", you should contact Toyota's aftermarket support. However, if it’s just the Toughbook, it will work.

  19. Q. If I have a MVCI interface device, how do I get the software to initialize replacement modules and what is the charge?
    A. If your shop has a MVCI interface device, the PCM initialization software to initialize replacement modules is free of charge.
    NOTE: If you are trying to reprogram the immobilizer or replace lost keys, this software will not work.

  20. Q. I purchased a pass through device from Snap-On and would like to know what other modules I can program besides the PCM and ECU.
    A. The J2534 software will reprogram powertrain ECUs only, per regulation. It will not work on airbag, power steering, ABS, etc.

  21. Q. I’m currently a certified locksmith. Can I reprogram keys with the HDS software?
    A. Yes, provided you are registered with ALOA and have a current SIS Security Professional subscription.

  22. Q. I currently have the J2534 software. Will that allow me to replace the PCM?
    A. No, this software is for reprogramming (updating) only.

  23. Q. What is the difference between ‘Control Module Initialization’ and ‘Control Module Reprogramming’?
    A. ‘Control Module Initialization’ means replacing the existing module with a new one. ‘Control Module Reprogramming’ is reprogramming (aka, reflashing) or updating the existing original module in the vehicle. Refer to ‘Tools Info’ tab for additional information.

  1. Q. What should I do if the SIS links are not working or if 'page cannot be displayed' message appears?
    A. Contact Customer Service at (866) 733-6235.

  2. Q. Why are some documents on your website scanned from a hard copy?
    A. All newer vehicle information is created in electronic format. In order to provide older vehicle information, it was necessary to scan existing printed documents.

  3. Q. Why are some Owner's Manuals listed as unlinked?
    A. All Owners Manuals are unlinked until all revisions are finalized. At that time, the manual is replaced with a linked version.

  4. Q. If I purchase a SIS subscription, can I print documents?
    A. Yes, but we do not recommend storing printed documents because SIS information is revised as needed. You should always check for the most current information.

  5. Q. When I select a document on SIS, it won't open. Why?
    A. If your PC has a pop-up blocker installed, you may not be able to view some of the content.

  6. Q. Is sectioning and measuring information available on SIS?
    A. The Body Repair Manual includes measuring information, but not step-by-step procedures on how to remove panels, etc. You should refer to the "Collision Industry Position Statements" listed under the Free Resources on the SIS homepage.

  7. Q. Does SIS contain motorcycle information?
    A. No, SIS is for Honda and Acura automobiles only.

  8. Q. Are smog check instructions available on SIS?
    A. Not at this time.
